Yankees win 2001 World Series
The Yankees avenged their "real" defeat in the 2001 World Series by defeating Arizona 4-3, using a 3 run 8th inning against Diamondback starter Curt Schilling who was breezing along with a 3-1 lead through the first seven innings. Back to back doubles by Tony Womack & Luis Gonzalez in the 4th staked the Rattlers to a 2-1 lead, then added a bases loaded walk from Yank reliever Mike Stanton in the 7th padding their lead to 3-1. Bernie Williams of New York belted a 2 run homer off Schilling to tie the game, bringing on Miguel Batista who promptly gave up a triple to Tino Martinez & the go ahead single to Jorge Posada. Yankee closer Mariano Rivera shut down the DBacks to close out the game.
