GAMBLE DEBUTS. NEWCOMBE LEADS GAMBLERS OVER RANGERS 4-1. 7-31-72. ATT-19423. TEMP-103
What a difference a day makes. Just yesterday Obadiah Gamble was a member of the NL East Lowly Phils who are in last place. Today he is a member of the 1st place AL West leading Gamblers who are perhaps world series contenders. Sporting his trademark huge afro Gamble walked & scored in 4 plate appearances. His LV debut overshadowed the splendid pitching of Dave Newcombe,Curt Young,& Mel Jackson. Spot Starter Newcombe went 6 innings yielding 1 run on 7 hits. Young held the fort for 2 innings & Jackson hurled a scorless 9th to remain perfect in save chances(26-26).Artis Cole & rookie Brendan Phillips were stars on offense. Cole had 4 singles & stole his 78th base. Phillips smacked 2 singles good for 2RBI.
